Bin David Li (b. 1987, Fuzhou, China) is a composer, artist, and multi-instrumentalist (qin 琴, piano, shō 笙) based in New York City. Published by Edition Wandelweiser, his recent work attends to the otherness of sound and its mnemonic derivatives.
Bin’s music has been performed internationally at festivals, venues, and unexpected spaces, with his open scores realized in a variety of contexts (see a representative list below). Recordings include i am also here, in collaboration with Stefan Thut, released via Edition Wandelweiser Records (2019).
Bin received degrees with high distinction from the Jacobs School of Music (BM in Composition) and the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 2012. His further music training includes a residency mentorship with Antoine Beuger in 2016 and a composition fellowship at IRCAM Manifeste in 2018.
Outside of music, Bin maintains a professional alter ego as a licensed CPA in New York State, with over 15 years of experience as a financial consultant. He also serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including Ensemble Dal Niente and RAM.
